For my community project, I wanted to make a photo series of how my job is helping many individuals have a place to stay and have a certain amount of food that is provided by my job. In these uncertain times, La Quinta in Carlsbad kept their doors open to the public. Through signs from the Department of Environmental Health Food and Housing Division and Health Officer and Emergency Regulations, the safety and health of the staff and guests became the primary goal. To stop the spread of the Coronavirus, La Quinta has a handful of staff who continue maintaining the doors open to those individuals who need a place to stay. As a hotel, we do our best to accommodate every guest the best we possibly can. The hotel provided a breakfast buffet and dining room area; however, it has been closed until further notice. However, we continue to offer our guest a Grab-N-Go bags as a substitute for the breakfast buffet. We continue to strive with confidence in providing breakfast and a place to stay to many individuals that need it. Although our guests don’t see the behind the scenes of what happens when preparing the Grab-N-Go bags, our duty is to be cautious and wear the necessary attire when preparing them. Esmeralda (with her consent) allowed me to photograph her prepping the Grab-N-Go bags. She washes her hands, puts on hand sanitizer, puts on gloves, and wears a mask to prep the Grab-N-Go bags. She follows the safety instructions throughout the prepping and serving of the bags. As a privacy issue, I couldn’t photograph the process of serving a breakfast bag to a guest. However, Esmeralda offers orange juice, milk, yogurt, cereal, and bagels alongside the breakfast Grab-N-Go bags. She also tracks how many guests come down to grab their breakfast bag, therefore, it allows management to know how much food we need to order. It might not seem much, but it truly does make an impact on many of our guests.
