These photos above are inspired by Cindy Sherman and her self-portraits. It was a fun assignment to do, but hard to get the lighting, correct angles on my camera on a tripod and having to run back and forth clicking the shutter and then rushing to pose before the ten seconds was up. My interesting findings include: a reboso (shawl) belonging to my mom who has kept it preserved for many years, a doll that I received as a gift when I was five and have kept (I hope someday give it to my future daughter), a necklace that belongs to my mom and dolphin earrings that I was obsessed with when I was in elementary school. It was really fun to reminisce the reasons of the items I have found. These items all have a significant story or meaning behind them. For example the reboso (shawl) is from Mexico and my mom used to wear it similarly to the way I photographed myself wearing it. It was used to wear when it was cold, to use at church to pray, and can also be used to carry a baby. The doll is was a gift when I was five years old, I would play with this doll for hours on end. From all my other dolls I had, she was my favorite and would remember being very careful with her. The necklace was a gift my mom received on Mother’s Day a very long time that opens up and has a picture of a young me in it. The dolphin earrings that I was obsessed with were special to me mainly because they were one of the few earrings I never lost on the playground and because at the time dolphins were my favorite animal. Both the necklace and earrings are getting old as you can tell by the photo, but in my eyes they are still valuable. *Disclaimer I am not sure why my photographs look grainy and currently trying to fix them/re-download them.*
