Generation Wealth

“Money, money, money.” that was from a little girl who’s perspective in the world only involves money and being a star. It was shocking to hear that at such a young age. With that being said, the documentary demonstrates how money can become an obsession and addiction to many individuals it doesn’t have an age limit. Money is greed and those individuals documented know that and yet they couldn’t stop wanting more money, more wealth. Wealth is so uncommon that those that have it want to continue to become wealthier because they have a rush of the different opportunities and adventures they can get with money which causes two conflicts one an obsession with wealth and two losing their morals and values. Wealth comes in different forms from being a workaholic businesswoman/man to being a pornstar/or stripper. Therefore, the rush they had with earning so much money gave them a sense of pride that unfortunately causes damages physically or mentally once they realize that money is not everything. It was interesting to see that those who had the mindset that money was everything and then lost it gave them a second chance to see what the real wealth is: family. Lauren Greenfields is obsessed with work and it’s shown throughout the documentary. I think it is a metaphor for her own “wealth” because for her pursuing her career gave her the fulfillment of “wealth”. Her battle between pursuing her career and leaving her family is shown through the eyes of her two children. Both children feel closer to their dad because he is always there for them while she is working. She knows that she has somewhat let them down but continues to pursue her career knowing that she has her husband looking out for her two kids. In a sense, she is a hypocrite because she is running off with her “wealth” obsession: work. Overall, I liked this documentary because it helps you realize that money isn’t everything, of course, having money is great (imagine being a super-rich college student rather being broke all-time lol) however, having value, morals, working hard to get where you want to be with a college education and family to lean on is what “wealth” is all about in my opinion.
